Henley Golf Club First in Oxfordshire to get GolfMark Accreditation
Henley Golf Club are the first club in Oxfordshire to be awarded the prestigious new England Golf GolfMark accreditation. Henley had previously held the original GolfMark certification but England Golf have now updated and enhanced the scheme to cover all aspects of the clubs activities. GolfMark is an official seal of approval for clubs which successfully work to develop the game by attracting new members and encouraging all categories of member to play more in a safe and welcoming environment.
The qualification at Henley builds on the success of the clubs Junior Section run by Club Professional Mark Howell and his team of volunteer helpers. All coaches and volunteers who work with children have relevant qualifications, training and approvals. The Junior membership is the largest in the area and enjoys a regular programme of golfing activities. The club has a popular scholarship scheme and an outreach programme with local schools and has recently extended this to Bishopwood Special School and the Feel Inspired Golf Academy scheme for disabled children.
The new GolfMark also covers all the activities with adult golfers including the Academy programme that has introduced or reintroduced over 150 new golfers to the game. Presenting the award to Henley G.C. Dean Newbold, BB&O County Development Officer of England Golf said “I’m delighted that Henley GC has achieved GolfMark and that its efforts to grow the game can be nationally recognised. They are a club who have taken a lead on ensuring that they are operating to a high standard in all departments. The efforts of those who spent time completing the accreditation must be noted and I am sure the benefits of their hard work will be seen in the coming days, weeks, months and years.”
